Lee Escott
Lee began playing for Weedon in a friendly in 1988 aged just 15 years old.
Bill Fountain had recognised that there were enough keen kids in Weedon to form a youth team so he arranged some friendlies for them during the 1988-89 season. The following season some of that team graduated to the club’s newly-formed Saturday team. In the 1990-91 season Lee was proud to be nominated Players’ Player of the year, an award he won for a second time ten years later.
He was a runner up in the 1991 Combination Division 2 League Cup Final and 1993 Area Cup Final before winning the 1993 Sunday Alliance Division 2 Cup. Lee thought cup finals would be a regular occurrence with Weedon but this was not the case as he had to wait 22 years for the opportunity to represent the club again in a final with the Vets team…which he unfortunately missed as he was away on holiday.
Over his years of service Lee has scored 9 goals for the club in over 1000 appearances for Saturday & Sunday, First & Reserves and Veterans.
In 2001 we had one of our highest finishes in the Saturday Combination Premier Division and a squad with great camaraderie. Lee was persuaded by my team-mates to organise a weekend tour of Amsterdam. The tour was a huge success as they beat a semi-professional team 4-2 on the Saturday & finished runners-up in an 11-a-side tournament at the Ajax Arena the following day!
Now is the Veterans Manager & Assistant Manager with the U7s
