Bill Fountain


Joined WFC Sunday Side in 1985 aged 31. Intention was to play one last season closer to home and then retire. However, stayed playing with WFC until 2000 on Saturdays and 2002 on Sundays.


Was also instrumental in establishing the Saturday Side in the Northants Central Combination, which involved playing and providing back up administration of the ‘new’ Saturday Side with a spell as Secretary in the first Season. Took over as Player Manager of the Sunday Side in the later 1980’s through until 1995, when relinquished the Managers role, but continued to turnout on Sundays, as a player, as and when required until early 2000’s.

Numerous Promotions were achieved playing for both Saturday and Sunday sides, with the Sunday Alliance Division 2 Cup won in the 1992/93 when was the Player Manager.

Played in all Divisions on a Saturday for the Club, during its ascent through various promotions to eventually achieve a place in the NCC Premier Division. Had played on the losing side with WFC being unsuccessful in a County Cup Final and a NCC Cup Final.

Had joined the WFC Committee on joining the Club in 1985 and had undertaken various roles within WFC, from Committee Member through to a spell as Chairman. Had assisted with the initial setting up of the Weedon Sports Association and had spent a number of years as Treasurer of the WSA from its formation in the early 1990’s.
